About

Bookish But Corruptible

(Previously trench-coat-angel, Angel in a Trench Coat, Speaking of Non-Sequiturs)

Just a queer college theatre student with too much love for fandom, David Bowie, and rainbows. Expect more Supernatural than you ever wanted to see along with a goodly amount of Star Trek. Here there be slash. Here there also be musing about life, a dash of liberal politics, a handful of gay, a pinch of writing, a sprinkling of Hufflepuff pride, and David Bowie only knows what else.

I respond to many names, such as Demyx (and variations there of) and Cas, but it’s Jimmy, if you must know.

I also run http://fuckyeahmysteryhusbands.tumblr.com/

Aw! This is too cute! Love!!

Wells Fargo backing homonormativity and folks getting excited about the resultant ‘progress’ gives me the opposite of hope. So I guess, GMTOOH?

So someone pointed out to me (I don’t know what magazine this came from) that many, many Big Name Companies run Gay Ads in Gay Magazines. These ads are made specifically for Gay Magazines and Gay TV Stations and will never see the light of Not Gay Magazines or Not Gay TV Stations.
So, yes, it’s awesome that these Big Name Companies aren’t so homophobic that they won’t cater to a portion of their potential consumers, but they aren’t doing this to make a Statement, or to Be Inclusive, or let alone because it just seemed like a Nice Idea. It’s about money, it’s about consumerism. The company has looked at the number of potential new clients/consumers they stand to gain by running a Gay Ad in a Gay Publication, and how many potential clients/consumers they stand to lose if the Gay Ad gets noticed by Anti-Gay Doucheheads. It’s some math and some probability and some manipulation and in the end, it’s just advertisement. Not only do they run a normal ad, like they always do, tailored to the publication they’re running it in, but someone scans it and puts it online, and tons of people pass it around tumblr, saying how awesome it is that people want Gays to Buy Things, too! Oh look, free advertising!
Long story short, yes, it’s an adorable ad. And out of context it’s Super Awesome to see something other than Straight Ads. But when it comes down to it, advertisement is advertisement and advertisement annoys the shit out of me.

See the above because I was the one who pointed this out to her.
Also, they don’t really look like a couple.

I love how it’s totally not a big deal in the ad, it’s understated and shows normalcy that many don’t see.
